How to create Spot Levels along line
Fixed or custom distances
You can use this tool with:
- fixed distances, or
- custom distances.
Generating Spot Levels along line, fixed distances
If you choose a fixed distance, you only have to add a start and an end Spot Level to your line to define your slope segment.
Intermediate Spot Levels will be generated automatically based on the segment distance interval you have entered.
To use this tool:
- Select Polyline/Spline.
- Go to:
- LAND4/Group Palettes/Show Ridge Line Palette, or
- LAND4 Palette/Ridge Lines
- Press Create Spot Levels on Polyline/Spline Slope button.
- Pop-up dialog appears.
- Select Fixed distances.
- Enter Initial height: the height value of start Spot Level and reference height from which the other Spot Levels will be calculated and generated along the line. Marked with a red circel and arrow in image below:

- Enter Slope percentage (the slope parameter will be constant along the determined segment).
- Enter Segment distance (the fixed length between each of the newly generated Spot Levels along the line).
- Define your Slope segment:
- Plot start Spot Level on selected Polyline/Spline.
- Plot end Spot Level on selected Polyline/Spline.
- Any intermediate Spot Levels are automatically calculated and created.
- To turn selected line into Ridge Line, press Create Ridge Line button (marked with red in image below):

Generating Spot Levels along line, custom distances
This option lets you to place the Spot Levels anywhere along the selected Polyline/Spline. Calculations will be based on your entered parameters.
- Select Polyline/Spline
- Go to:
- LAND4/Group Palettes/Show Ridge Line Palette, or
- LAND4 Palette/Ridge Lines
- Press Create Spot Levels on Polyline/Spline Slope button.
- Pop-up dialog appears.
- Select Custom distances.
- Enter Initial height: the height value of start Spot Level and reference height from which the other Spot Levels will be calculated and generated along the line.

- Enter Slope percentage (the slope parameter will be constant along the determined segment).
- Plot desired number of Spot Levels on selected Polyline/Spline.
- To turn selected line into Ridge Line, press Create Ridge Line button (marked with red in image above).
- Press green check mark to approve action
Delete line – Spot Levels stay
Should you choose to delete the selected line, the newly created Spot Levels will remain and can be used in other operations.
